Ahoy

Pittsburgh Pirate Ship is the region's first and only pirate ship fleet available for charter! The Jolly Roger, our first and smallest ship, sets sail on the three rivers for one- and two-hour adventures for up to six shipmates (that’s you and five more!). Voyages start at only $35 per person.

On The Jolly Roger, you’re the commander of your own destiny. From chips and beer to champagne and charcuterie, you can bring your own food and drink, pick the music playlist, and even choose the route. Learn more about the ship and get your questions answered with our FAQs.

MEET OUR CREW

COMMODORE
EVAN WEAVER

After serving in the U.S. Navy for six years at three commands and in sixteen countries, Evan made Pittsburgh his home. From the moment he arrived here, he had three thoughts: 1) there are very few access points for people to spend time on the rivers, 2) the rivers are generally underutilized, and 3) why on earth isn’t there already a pirate ship here?

In 2021, Evan launched the Pittsburgh Pirate Ship to share his love of the water and passion for adventure with the community, and the rest is history in the making.

FAQs

Where do we meet the Pirate Ship?

You’ll meet The Jolly Roger along the North Shore of the Allegheny River, near the Mr. Rogers statue (here's the Google Map link). Just before your boarding time, you will be greeted by a crew member who will help organize your group, provide a safety brief, and answer any lingering questions.

What’s the ship like?

The first ship in the Pirate Ship fleet, The Jolly Roger, is a 26-foot long, 1991 Bayliner Rendezvous pontoon boat. The boat was transformed into a pirate ship by artist Dan Corder, who has also created a craft for Disney World’s Pirates of the Caribbean ride. There are both shaded and full-sun areas on the boat, and enough room for a crew of six (not counting our captain and crew!) to comfortably enjoy a private trip together.

What is included with a cruise?

Every standard one- and two-hour cruise includes your choice of where the ship goes and what audio (if any) plays on the speaker. You’re also free to bring your own food and beverages. If you choose to add on one of our special packages, we can include everything from a performer to pizza and cake. If you’d rather talk to someone than navigate your options on the site, go ahead and give us a call! 412-944-0357. We’d be happy to help you select the best trip options for your crew and occasion.

What safety precautions are you taking?

We fully comply with U.S. Coast Guard standards for safety and security of a commercial passenger vessel. A Safety and Operations inspection is conducted every morning before we start our day and again at various times throughout each day. This experience is open air and is currently restricted to six passengers all from the same group. We have hand sanitizer and masks available, and our captain and crew are vaccinated but would be happy to wear masks if your group prefers. The vessel is sanitized between each use.

Which cruise is best for my crew?

We have both one-hour and two-hour cruises available. We recommend the one-hour cruise for families with little ones and the two-hour cruise for an all-adult crew. Two hours can be a little bit too long for kids, and one hour isn’t enough time for adults who want to relax and explore the three rivers. Both one- and two-hour trips have optional add-ons, such as performers and party packages. Read more about our packages here.

What should I wear?

You’re welcome aboard wearing whatever you feel happiest and most comfortable in. We recommend checking the weather for the day and making sure you have enough sunscreen, shade, and layers. Outside of that, we’ve had people dress in everything from swimsuits to jeans to pirate costumes. It’s your trip; wear whatever you like! Depending on the day, our crew might be in uniform or even full pirate regalia ourselves.

What is the alcohol policy?

All voyages are BYOB (you’re welcome to bring your own food, as well!). All we ask is that any outside food and beverages be cleaned up and hauled out by your party after your trip.

What happens if the weather cancels our cruise?

Customers will receive a full refund or credit toward a future trip if they give Pittsburgh Pirate Ship 24-hours notice of cancellation via phone at 412-944-0357. Customers will also receive a full refund or credit if Pittsburgh Pirate Ship must cancel due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. No-shows or cancellations with less than 24-hours notice will be charged full price.

Is there a restroom on board?

We call that a head, and The Jolly Roger is outfitted with a basic camp toilet in the case of emergencies (but it’s a true pirate experience!). We recommend using the restroom before your departure, and we are also happy to pull over to a public restroom along the shoreline during your journey.

Is this experience wheelchair accessible?

We’ll be frank: transitioning from the shore down onto the boat itself is a moment we aren’t certain how to address for a guest who uses a wheelchair. But if you or a member of your party wants to get on this boat, we’re going to do everything we can to make it possible for you to be comfortable and safe while you’re with us, no matter the barrier. We recommend giving Commodore Evan a call to see what accommodations we can make so that the Pittsburgh Pirate Ship experience is accessible to you or your mates.

Will I get seasick on the Pirate Ship?

The Jolly Roger is extremely steady in most conditions, even when jumping around, which makes it a great vessel for first-time pirates who haven’t yet found their sea legs. As stable as it is, some people are very susceptible to motion sickness and in that event, we encourage those passengers to eat lightly and drink ginger ale to calm their stomachs before boarding.
